<title>Conestoga Speech Invitational</title>

<description>The Conestoga Trendsetters Speech Team cordially invites you and your team to the second annual Conestoga Speech Invitational on Saturday, March 10th.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;We will offer two preliminary rounds and finals of all nine NSAA events.&amp;nbsp; Events with small entry numbers will not go to finals and placings will be determined on *****ulative scores in prelim rounds.&amp;nbsp; Medals will be awards for 1st-6th place in each event and plaques will be given to the top two sweepstakes teams.&lt;br&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Entry forms must be in by 5:00 pm on March 5&lt;/strong&gt;. <title>GICC Middle School Festival</title>

&amp;nbsp;Coaches and Teachers:&lt;br&gt;
Grand Island Central Catholic Middle-High School will host a Junior High/Middle &lt;br&gt;
School Speech Festival on Friday, March 9th, 2012. &amp;nbsp;This festival is open to &lt;br&gt;
any student in grades 6 through 8.&lt;br&gt;
Events Offered&lt;br&gt;
Poetry Interpretation- &amp;nbsp;An 8 minute maximum performance of one poem or a group &lt;br&gt;
of related poems. &amp;nbsp;A student written introduction of the program is expected, &lt;br&gt;
but transitions are optional. &amp;nbsp;Students must present poetry with copy of poem&lt;br&gt;
(s) in front of them.&lt;br&gt;
Prose Interpretation- A 10 minute maximum performance of &amp;nbsp;a cutting from a &lt;br&gt;
book, short story, comic book, play, or screenplay by one person. &amp;nbsp;A student &lt;br&gt;
written introduction is expected, but student maybe perform with or without the &lt;br&gt;
copy of the piece in front of them.&lt;br&gt;
Public Speaking- An 8 minute maximum student-written speech whose purpose is to &lt;br&gt;
inform, persuade, or entertain an audience. &amp;nbsp;Student may use a visual aid in &lt;br&gt;
the speech and may perform with or without the copy of their speech in front of &lt;br&gt;
them.&lt;br&gt;
Impromptu Speaking- 10 minute time period where students prepare and delivery a &lt;br&gt;
speech on a topic that they draw. &amp;nbsp;Students may or may not use a notecard when &lt;br&gt;
delivering the speech.&lt;br&gt;
Duet Acting/Duo Interpretation- &amp;nbsp;10 minute performance of two students of a &lt;br&gt;
cutting of play, skit, or screen play. &amp;nbsp;A student written introduction is &lt;br&gt;
expected. &amp;nbsp;If performing without scripts, students can use two chairs/table&lt;br&gt;
(which GICC will provide). &amp;nbsp;If performing with scripts, students should use &lt;br&gt;
off stage focus and pantomiming similar to prose and poetry interpretation.&lt;br&gt;
Reader&amp;rsquo;s Theatre- &amp;nbsp;A 15 minute maximum cutting of a play, book, or screenplay &lt;br&gt;
performed by 3-5 students. &amp;nbsp;Students may play multiple roles. &amp;nbsp;Off and on stage &lt;br&gt;
focus is permitted and scripts are required. &amp;nbsp;A student-written introduction is &lt;br&gt;
expected. &amp;nbsp;Performance maybe use platforms, stools, and &amp;nbsp;music stands.&lt;br&gt;

9:00-9:45- Registration- Lobby&lt;br&gt;
9:45- Opening Meeting-Little Theatre&lt;br&gt;
10:00- Round 1- All events&lt;br&gt;
11:30- Round 2- All events&lt;br&gt;
1:00- Round 3 &amp;ndash; All events&lt;br&gt;
3:00- Awards- Little Theatre&lt;br&gt;
Awards&lt;br&gt;
Students who receive overall ratings of Superior will receive awards, and the &lt;br&gt;
student/group who received the highest overall rating points will receive a &lt;br&gt;
special award.&lt;br&gt;
Judges&lt;br&gt;
High school students and adults will serve as judges. &amp;nbsp;Please bring a judge for &lt;br&gt;
every 10 entries you bring to the tournament. &amp;nbsp;My high school team will serve &lt;br&gt;
as a hired judging pool. &amp;nbsp;If you use high school students, be sure they&amp;rsquo;re &lt;br&gt;
ready to provide encouragement and constructive criticism. &amp;nbsp;I hope the relaxed &lt;br&gt;
schedule allows judges to give brief oral critiques especially in this festival &lt;br&gt;
format, which focus is really about developing communication skills and &lt;br&gt;
appreciation for speech.&lt;br&gt;
Entries&lt;br&gt;
Student may enter in up to 3 events.&lt;br&gt;
Fees&lt;br&gt;
Two dollars per student, not event. &amp;nbsp;We&amp;rsquo;re trying to keep the meet fairly low &lt;br&gt;
cost. &amp;nbsp;&lt;br&gt;
Concessions&lt;br&gt;
We&amp;rsquo;re still investigating what we&amp;rsquo;re going to do for concessions the day. &amp;nbsp;Once &lt;br&gt;
decided, I will let you know.&lt;br&gt;

<description>For the first time the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will be offering a graduate course in directing forensics in the summer.&amp;nbsp; The course will take place in the summer during the week of July 18th-23rd.&amp;nbsp; This course is a great way for coaches to get graduate credit and additional hands on coaching experience.&amp;nbsp; The course will run Monday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm.&amp;nbsp; The first three days will focus on classroom readings and discussion.&amp;nbsp; The second half of the course will coincide with the Cornhusker forensics camp being offered on UNL's campus July 20th-24th.&amp;nbsp; This will allow students to engage in real coaching and hands on learning.&amp;nbsp; Registration for summer courses begins in March.&amp;nbsp; If you have any questions please contact Aaron Duncan at aduncan3@unl.edu&lt;br&gt;</description>
